(National Sentinel) Style Not Substance: In what amounts to additional proof that the incoming Democratic majority in the House isn’t really serious about helping lead the nation, the party of the donkey plans to introduce legislation to criminalize private sales of firearms.
As reported by far-Left Mother Jones, Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., is ready to do the bidding of several anti-gun groups after meeting with representatives from Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Center for American Progress, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, and Gabby Giffords’ group, among others.
He asked what those groups wanted and topping the list was the criminalization of private gun sales, as though that is the most pressing issue facing our country today.
As such, Thompson is planning to sponsor legislation that would require an FBI background check before Americans can purchase guns from friends, neighbors, co-workers, or other acquaintances.
In fact, Breitbart News added, the bill would even require a background check for a son before a father could give him a firearm as a gift.

Mother Jones reports that Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) met with gun control groups that included the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Center for American Progress, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, and Gabby Giffords’ group. He asked them what they wanted, and a bill to criminalize private gun sales was on their wish list.
Note that currently private gun sales are legal and have been since the Bill of Rights were ratified in 1791.
Also note that a law criminalizing private gun sales without background checks would not have stopped a single mass shooting this century, as nearly all mass shooters acquired their guns legally, through a retailer after passing a background check. The only exception to this were those who stole their guns.
“While the Democrats’ gun control push will not prevent mass shootings, it will criminalize a grandfather for passing his goose gun to his grandson without government permission,” Breitbart’s Awr Hawkins wrote.
“It will also criminalize a mother who gives her college-age daughter a revolver for self-defense without first getting government permission,” he added.
This bill has zero chance of passing the GOP-controlled Senate, let alone getting past POTUS Donald Trump’s veto pen. So Thompson’s effort is much more style than substance.
That said, how come it’s okay for Left-wing Democrats to be “beholden” to anti-gun groups but Republicans can’t align themselves with gun-rights groups like the NRA?
Not a single mass shooter thus far has been a member of the NRA — not that it would matter since the pro-gun group is not advocating that its members become mass murderers anyway (and has condemned these killers in each and every instance).
But anti-gun groups that are responsible for policies that take away firearms or make them harder to obtain certainly do have blood on their hands by depriving victims of their God-given and constitutionally protected right to use a gun for self-defense.
