Matt Gaetz reminds us why Mueller’s prosecution of Michael Flynn was always a sham

(National SentinelDeep State: Special counsel Robert Mueller has recommended to a federal court that retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn not be jailed after he pleaded guilty to one count of lying to federal investigators because he has provided “substantial assistance” going beyond the Trump-Russia probe to “several ongoing investigations.”

In an interview with Fox News‘ Sean Hannity Monday night after news broke of Mueller’s recommendation, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., pointed out that the allegation of making a false statement against Flynn was always bogus in the first place.

“Look, we would not even be talking about Michael Flynn right now if it were not for the initial interviews he did with — wait for it — Peter Strzok,” Gaetz said. “The very same Peter Strzok who had the insurance policy against the Trump presidency. The same Peter Strzok who said no, we’ll stop him. And most importantly, the same Peter Strzok who, when talking to his girlfriend 10 months into this investigation, after Michael Flynn’s story had already been told, was saying there is no there, there. There’s no evidence of collusion with Michael Flynn or President Trump or anyone else.

“This whole thing is a joke. Michael Flynn won’t be any facing any prison time but he would have faced no legal jeopardy at all if he just wouldn’t have pled guilty because they would have never gotten a conviction with Peter Strzok as their star witness,” Gaetz added.

Some have speculated that Flynn accepted a guilty plea because it was easier to cop and plea and protect his son, whom he feared would be targeted by Mueller’s Democrat-aligned prosectors next.

Gaetz also pointed out the hypocrisy of Mueller recommending no punishment for Flynn and political enemies of POTUS Trump claiming that he was wrong to ask then-FBI Director James Comey to ‘let go’ of Flynn’s charges.

CNS News noted:

Flash back [sic] to early 2017, when – according to notes written by then-FBI Director Comey – Trump took Comey aside the day after Flynn was fired. “I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Comey quoted Trump as saying.  “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

In his court filing on Tuesday, Mueller seemed to agree that Flynn was a good guy. He mentioned some of Flynn’s “mitigating” characteristics, including his “exemplary” military and public service. “He served in the military for over 33 years, including five years of combat duty, led the Defense Intelligence Agency and retired as a 3-star Lieutenant General.”

If it wasn’t okay for POTUS Trump to ask Mueller to ‘go easy’ on Flynn because “he is a good guy,” what’s different about Mueller making essentially the same claims about Flynn in his court filing?

Gaetz also lashed out at the corrupt elements of Obama’s Justice Department and FBI that allowed a real criminal — Hillary Clinton — off the hook.

“I think a big part of the reason why there is this attack on the president is because you’ve got people covering up for failing to do their job as it related to Hillary Clinton or actively trying to help Hillary Clinton avoid consequences for her crimes,” he said, noting that some of the same people investigating her were moved over to the investigation of the Trump campaign.

“The personnel overlays are outrageous,” said Gaetz.
