According to information published by Global Times on June 2, 2021, a Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy flotilla with the Type 052D guided-missile destroyer Taiyuan, the Type 054A guided-missile frigate Xiangtan and the Type 903A comprehensive supply ship Chaohu reportedly entered the Pacific Ocean for exercises via the Osumi Strait, after US-Japanese naval drills in the Pacific.
