New research facility speeds changes to US Army helicopters

The U.S. Army is opening a new $6.7 million vehicle drivetrain facility this summer to research lighter, more reliable and more efficient transmissions for future military rotorcraft.

VIPER lab will soon conduct experiments on rotocraft drivetrains. This work is part of larger efforts to improve efficiency and reduce weight of vehicle transmitions. The testbed will allow for research on a number of vertical takeoff and landing platforms, including the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter (Picture source: US Army)
