US Air Force selects Raytheon Missiles & Defense to develop long-range standoff nuclear weapon

The Air Force announced plans to continue the Long-Range Standoff Weapon’s development with Raytheon Company as a sole-source contractor.  The LRSO cruise missile is a critical element of the Air Force’s on-going nuclear recapitalization efforts.

The LRSO is the second attempt to replace the AGM-86 ALCM. The AGM-129 on this picture was a stealth nuclear cruise missile that was retired in 2010 (Picture source: US Air Force)
