Comey just made a mockery of Congress’ attempt to get answers over his tanking of the Hillary probe

(National SentinelPointless: If you thought that Republican efforts to bring fired FBI Director James Comey back before a congressional committee to ‘provide answers’ about the way his bureau and the Justice Department [mis]handled their investigation into Hillary Clinton’s obvious criminal abuse of classified emails would lead to some breakthroughs, you’re going to be disappointed.

In fact, based on early reports, it’s safe to say that the entire hearing was a bust.

After first insisting that it be held in public, Comey finally agreed to a closed-door hearing which made sense for Republicans to insist upon given that a lot of information they are trying to get is still classified.

But alas, that was the excuse one of Comey’s two attorneys — a Justice Department lawyer, no less — used to instruct his client not to say much of anything. About anything — and especially anything to do with Clinton.

Because Robert Mueller.

As Fox News‘ Chad Pergram tweeted, Republicans were clearly exasperated by the lack of discovery.

“Issa: Comey is in there with two attorneys. One that’s from the DoJ has repeatedly, I would say at his gleeful acceptance, instructed that he will not be answering a great many questions that are clearly items at core of our investigation,” he wrote, speaking about retiring Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif.

Comey “declined to answer questions about a range of matters because of special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections,” CNN reported.

“We absolutely need to get answers,” Issa said at one point, Townhall noted.

not to answer anything substantive about the Hillary probe he so obviously covered for should have been expected. If it wasn’t, then the GOP just set itself up for embarrassment and humiliation.

One thing Comey did say was a joke: He actually claimed that anyone who believes the FBI “abused” the FISA court (by representing the phony Russia dossier as legitimate intelligence) was engaging in “nonsense.”

“Did you have total confidence in the dossier when you used it to secure a surveillance warrant and also in the subsequent renewals?” a reporter asked Comey.

“I have total confidence that the FISA process was followed and that the entire case was handled in a thoughtful responsible way by DOJ and the FBI,” Comey responded. “I think that the notion that FISA was abused here is nonsense.”

Comey just made [another] mockery of our system, and especially of Congress and its oversight role.

If there is ever going to be any real justice done in the case of Hillary’s exoneration, the FBI’s malfeasance against the Trump campaign, and the Justice Department’s role as a willing accomplice to all of it, POTUS Trump is going to have to appoint an attorney general that has his same will to counterpunch.
