Another day, another constitutional GAFFE by Ocasio-Cortez

(National SentinelUnqualified: It’ll never happen at this point because Congress and the nation are irreconcilably divided, but sometime in the future, perhaps when we all go our separate ways and form new countries, at least one of them will adopt a Constitution that requires representatives to actually know what it says before they can run for office.

Such a requirement is needed to prevent constitutionally challenged people like Alexander Ocasio-Cortez from being elected. After all, if you don’t know the Constitution, how can you be a faithful steward of it?

She made a mockery of the Constitution — and herself — again during a photo shoot for Politico at Harvard University last week, the Politico Playbook reported.

The recap noted that Ocasio-Cortez threatened to run for president but in doing so she misquoted the Constitution’s specific language outlining requirements for our nation’s highest office.

“You can’t even run for president for another six years,” the photographer told the newly elected representative from New York, who is currently just 29 years old.

The Constitution says the U.S. president be at least 35 years old.

“No, not for a long time. Thank God,” she replied. “Although we’ve been joking that because the Equal Rights Amendment hasn’t been passed yet, the Constitution technically says he cannot run unless he’s 35. … So what we’ll do is we’ll force the Republican Party to pass the Equal Rights Amendment by threatening to run for president.”

“That is awesome. All the people who say a literal interpretation of the Constitution is the only thing you should be paying attention to,” the photographer responded.

“Exactly, all those Constitutionalists, I will keep vigilance,” Ocasio-Cortez snarked.

Groan.

First of all, the “Equal Rights Amendment” is a Left-wing construct and unnecessary. The Constitution already requires and protects equal rights, and that’s before we even get to civil rights legislation enshrined in U.S. Code.

For another, the actual language in Article II of the Constitution, which outlines and describes presidential qualifications and power, is gender-non-specific (as Politico noted):

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; , and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.

Mind you, this isn’t the first constitutional gaffe this woman has made.

Last month, during a conference call with Democratic activists, she incorrectly identified the three branches of government.

“If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress — Uh, rather all three chambers of government: the presidency, the Senate, and the House,” Ocasio-Cortez told Democratic activists.

The three branches are the Legislative Branch (House and Senate); the Executive Branch (the presidency); and the Judicial Branch (federal courts/Supreme Court).

Ocasio-Cortez will be sworn in just a few short weeks from now.
