U.S. Army paratroopers jump with plasma, testing new lifesaving delivery method

According to U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, bleeding is the leading case of death on the battlefield. When service members receive serious wounds, they are often transported to a surgical team for treatment. These casualties often suffer from severe blood loss due to the inability of their blood to clot normally, which represent approximately 40 percent of combat casualties. Sgt. Brian Micheliche reports.
Pfc. Jaritt Louthan, a medical lab technician with 432nd Blood Support Detachment, 28th Combat Support Hospital, 44th Medical Brigade, re-hydrates freeze-dried plasma during an airdrop test Sept. 19, 2019 at Fort Bragg. Jaritt is among the first few soldiers to test the durability of the plasma packaging by parachuting to collect data for possible future use on the battlefield. (Picture source: Sgt.
