Three individuals were harmed and three suspects were arrested after an auto smashed outside the US National Security Agency's central command.
Gunfire rang out after the dark SUV moved toward the office in Fort Meade, Maryland, without authorization.
There is no sign yet of any connect to fear mongering, FBI authorities said.
The driver of the auto, a non-military personnel, and an NSA cop was taken to the clinic, the organization said.
FBI specialist Gordon Johnson said the harmed were altogether taken to healing center from the US Army base, which is around 30 miles (48km) north-east of Washington DC, after Wednesday morning's occurrence.

The FBI said on Twitter after the episode: "NSA police and neighborhood law implementation are tending to an occurrence that occurred at the beginning of today at one of NSA's protected vehicle section entryways.
"The circumstance is under control and there is no progressing security of wellbeing risk."
Another announcement from the NSA open undertakings office said: "a security episode" occurred at one of its checkpoints known as Canine door at around 07:00 neighborhood time (12:00 GMT).
Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger tweeted that the detailed wounds were not from shots.
US President Donald Trump has been advised of the episode.
"Our considerations and petitions are with everybody that has been influenced," said a White House representative, Lindsay Walters.
In March 2015, one individual was slaughtered and another truly injured subsequently to driving a vehicle up to the NSA's door, disregarding charges to stop.
