Ancient mound in western Iran to be excavated after 80 years


Eighty years after the surveys conducted by Aurel Stein, the Girairan mound is going to be excavated again.

The hill is located in a village under the authority of Aleshtar city, the capital of Selseleh County in Lorestan Province of Iran.

Eighty years ago renowned archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein conducted surveys in western Iran and published the results of his research in a book titled ‘Old Routes of Western Iran’.

Then the archaeologist worked on some Bronze Age graves and the site has been left untouched ever since.
