Black holes are one of the most extraordinary objects known to physics.
Their powerful gravitational fields can swallow entire stars and they warp space-time itself.
Yet, despite their charm amongst space enthusiast, for the most part, numerous people don’t correctly understand the physics of black holes.
In a recent video by PBS Space-time on Youtube, astrophysicist Dr. Gabe Perez-Giz walks audience through the science of black holes, clarifying and correcting some all-too-common misconceptions.
And surprisingly as it turns out, our most fundamental concepts about black holes – that they have event horizons from which even light cannot escape, also that they’re “infinitely dense,” – are either intensely overgeneralized or totally wrong.
