However, counter voices have recently spoken up about the suspicious role undertaken by Turkey’s Erdogan in further fuelling this crisis, and eventually jeopardizing the safety and security of Europe. For years, Turkey’s ultimate dream in joining the EU has been repeatedly shattered. The reasons of such denial might or might not be convincing for all of us. The core of this argument, as many analysts have expressed, lies in Erdogan’s attempt to blackmail and eventually subdue Europe. “Turkey understands that EU alone can’t protect its borders. In the past Turkey was a candidate for EU membership and weak in comparison with Europe, but with the refugee crisis the situation reversed because Europe today needs Turkey more”, said Dr. Gunter Sufert, an expert in Foundation for Science and Politics of Germany. It is no secret that Turkey has received millions of Euros from the EU in order to provide the refugees with tentative lodging and ultimately keep the refugees away from the European borders. Still, the influx of refugees, among which are many terrorist members, hasn’t ceased. “Turks chose the worst way for its EU accession through inundating Europe with refugees”, Dr. Gunter said. Behind the false pretext of supporting war refugees and humanitarian aid, Turkey is pursuing its political fantasies which have shaken the very foundations of Europe and left the whole continent a viable target for more bloody attacks.
