Kerry to meet Russian President Putin for Syria talks

The United States Secretary of State John Kerry is visiting Moscow on an official visit in which he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss both the situations in Syria and Ukraine.

The meet will take place on Wednesday. It comes a week after Russia’s declaration that it was pulling the bulk of its forces out of Syria having intervened six months ago to assist the Syrian regime in light of the ceasefire it brokered with Washington late last month and the United Nations sponsored peace talks in Geneva which aim to bring an end to the conflict which entered its sixth year this month.

Russia recently suggested to the US that it could punish violators of the ceasefire in Syria militarily and even said it would do so unilaterally if Washington wasn’t willing to discuss ways they could bilateral impose the very ceasefire their brokerage brought about.

Doubtlessly these will be among the issues of mutual interest which Kerry and Putin will be discussing.
