The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is in serious trouble at the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur), thanks in large part to the recent offensive launched by the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.
However, the situation for ISIL in Palmyra has just taken a turn for the worse after the Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” and their allies imposed full control over two hills that overlook the terrorist group’s primary supply route along the Ithriya-Palmyra Road.
Just how devastating is this? Well, the Ithriya-Palmyra Road allowed ISIL to have a short route from the east Hama front to the city of Palmyra.
Now that they have been cutoff along this important roadway, ISIL will have to take a long trip through the vast mountains of northeastern Homs that require them to travel along this rough terrain using makeshift roads.
More importantly, the Ithriya-Palmyra Road provided ISIL a with short and reliable route to transport oil from the oil rich town of Al-Sukhanah to the Al-Raqqa Governorate.
The loss of this road is going to be devastating in the coming days, as ISIL will be forced to rely on their current provisions against the well-armed Syrian Arab Army.
