Indiana's Dwight L. Smith Lodge of Research Meets March 19, 2011

Dwight L. Smith was the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Indiana F.& A.M. in 1945, and served as Grand Secretary from 1947 until 1979, He was well-known for his longtime position as editor of the Indiana Freemason Magazine, and his history of Indiana Freemasonry, Goodly Heritage.

The Dwight L. Smith Lodge of Research is a special purpose Lodge under Dispensation, created by the Grand Lodge of Indiana, F. & A. M., for the purpose of furthering research and interest in the history, customs, and societal impact of the Masonic Fraternity. Its mandate is to study these areas from a worldwide perspective, but with a particular emphasis on how they have impacted the lives of Masons, their families, and the general public in the State of Indiana.

The Lodge meets four times each year, twice in Indianapolis at Indiana Freemasons' Hall in Indianapolis, and once each in the northern and southern regions of the state. Currently, membership in the Lodge is open only to Indiana Freemasons who are members in good standing of a regular subordinate Lodge holden under charter of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, F. & A. M. Membership is $15 per year, due and payable on January 1 for the year in advance.

The next meeting will be on Saturday, March 19, 2011, 12:00 PM at Indiana Freemasons' Hall, 525 N Illinois St. in Indianapolis. This meeting is open to all Master Masons regardless of whether or not they are members of the Lodge. Cost of lunch will be $5. If you have a paper you would like to present, please contact either Nathan Brindle, WM, or Bill Sassman, Secretary, ASAP.

Worshipful Brother John Bridegroom will discuss a research project he is currently pursuing. And yes, the lodge is aware that this conflicts with the Secretaries' Meeting that day in Franklin. Unfortunately, there are only so many weekends available.
