GL of Florida F&AM Votes No on PHA Recognition

Back in March, it was reported that a resolution was proposed for the 2010 annual communication of the Grand Lodge of Florida F&AM to recognize the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated, Florida; Belize, Central America; St. John United States Virgin Island, Incorporated, which had already voted several years ago to recognize their mainstream counterpart.

The vote on the resolution was held over the weekend, and failed by what has been reported as an overwhelming majority (3 or even 4 to 1, by one estimate). Volume 3, Issue 1 (Spring 2010) issue of The Florida Mason magazine noted in its publication of the resolution that the Jurisprudence Committee recommended rejection.

The slogan of the GL of Florida F&AM's immediate Past Grand Master Dale I. Goehrig over the last year was "Unity In Masonry."

Currently, in the U.S. and Canada, ten mainstream, predominantly white grand lodges do not recognize their predominantly black Prince Hall Affiliated (PHA) grand lodge counterpart: Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
